Prof H.S. Cronje

Prof H S Cronjé was head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of the Free State from 1985 – 2011. His main interests were oncology (cancer treatment) and urogynaecology (treatment of pelvic organ prolapse and related conditions). In 1996, he started a urogynaecology unit in the department and soon this unit became an outstanding unit of this nature in South Africa. Prof Cronjé was also a founding member and later chairman of SAUGA (SA Urogynecologic Association), where he often lectured on the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse. After retirement he moved to Pretoria in 2012, where he started a private pracrice concentrating on urogynaecology. He closely collaborates with physiotherapy and dietetics. Through this collaboration, Cura Pelvi was founded in 2017, a centre fot the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse and related conditions, situated in Mediclinic Midstream.

Dr Ockie van Schalkwyk

Dr Ockie van Schalkwyk is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a special interest in fertility and pelvic prolapse surgery. He qualified as a medical doctor in 2006 and did his internship and community service at Kimberley Hospital Complex, where he also obtained his Diploma in Anaesthesiology. He further worked here as a medical officer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He completed his MMed degree at the University of the Free State in 2014, where he worked at the Universitas Academic Hospital Complex. He completed his FCOG degree at the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. He started working in private practice in 2015. (drockievanschalkwyk.co.za)

Dr. Johan Markram

Dr Markram qualified as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in 2005 at the University of the Free State. Thereafter, he started a private practice in Unitas Hospital, Centurion. He soon became well known due to his expertise in obstetrics and gynaecologic surgery, where he excelled in laparoscopic surgery. He also developed an infertility clinic with an in-vitro fertilization laboratory. In 2015 he moved to Mediclinic Midstream where he became part of the Cura Pelvi initiative, which concentrates on pelvic organ prolapse and related conditions. In 2017, dr Markram obtained a masters degree in Pharmacology, notwithstanding his busy schedule in private practice.
